Guilcagh Church radiates an ambience of luxury within the serene atmosphere of a Gothic treasure. Set in a sun drenched wilderness, with a south facing terrace – ideal for evening drinks. Carmel and Liam have restored this magnificent building’s sensitivity – it epitomises comfort and luxury through every level.
The living space is heated by an oversized wood burning stove, fuelled with fresh logs gathered from the farm – should you wish to curl up and snuggle for the evening.

There is underfloor heating throughout with magnificent chandeliers dominating the space leading up to the curved balcony – venture up the wooden spiral stairs to this expansive space overlooking the pulpit.

There is a haven of things to do locally while visiting – that is if you ever want to leave the comfort of the church.

Enjoy the local loop walks through the forestry – Carmel and Liam will tell you all about them when you arrive.

Local amenities include the Copper Coast – (Pony trekking is a must!); the famous Waterford Greenway is only 5 minutes away; Exotic Gardens in the Mount Congreve Estate – 5 mins away; travel the Waterford to Kilmeaden old railway; Curraghmore Estate & Gardens; hill walking in the wonderful Comeragh Mountains (for the adventurous!); trout fishing in the local lake, or ocean fishing 20 mins away.

Be sure to visit Waterford’s famous Viking Triangle and Reginald’s Tower.

 Verified We stayed for 2 nights and absolutely loved the church, beautiful surroundings with plenty to do. Carmel was very kind and responsive via text. We loved having a spot of brunch at the Coach House and visiting Mahon Falls. Would recommend the church to everyone. Thanks again Carmel

 Verified We had an absolutely lovely stay in Guilcagh church. The place is truly unique and the restoration of the church is amazing. The accommodation was great with lots of basics included. The village of Portlaw is easy to get to by car and will provide for all the basic needs of your stay. It’s also quite a pretty town to boot. The only thing I would flag is that we went over New Year’s and the weather was pretty cold. While the stove is great, warm clothes are needed and I’d also suggest bringing slippers as the floor around the kitchen can be quite cold. Other than that, it’s a fantastic place that I’d highly recommend for anyone looking for somewhere a bit different.

 Verified Medieval gothic vibes with a touch of new age aesthetic. It had all the things you’d expect for an old church with the comforts of heated flooring and a wood fire. This was the perfect spooky rest stop. The host was super responsive and very thoughtful with the instructions and recommendations. 10/10 would visit again

 Verified This Airbnb is wonderfully unique and fun! It is incredible how nicely they have created a comfortable and cozy home inside such a dramatic, historical church. It is nicely decorated with the perfect amount of details and creature comforts without disrespecting the natural beauty! Both bedrooms are very comfortable and both bathrooms work perfectly well although the showers themselves are a bit small compared to what we were used to in the US. I would readily recommend this experience to anyone that has high expectations from their Airbnbs!

 Verified We had an amazing and one of a kind stay with Carmel and would definitely come back! Liam and Carmel have done a beautiful job restoring the church into a gorgeous home! The instructions were clear and easy to find and such a peaceful area, yet close enough by car to get to local attractions. An experience we will never forget, with a story to tell for years to come!
